Programmes
Kendale nurtures creativity and academics, offering an excellent curriculum, languages, arts & drama and programmes to prepare students to become global citizens.
Kendale’s programme emphasizes, as well as the regular curriculum common to most international schools, creativity with plenty of room set aside for musical, dramatic and artistic activities as well as physical education.
The children who attend international schools today are tomorrow’s international citizens and potential leaders. It is therefore essential that these students acquire the linguistic sense of freedom that will assist them in respecting the diversity of other cultures. To help satisfy this requirement the school offers, as well as the regular English, a comprehensive course of Italian as well as an introduction to French.
For our younger children Kendale offers a daily routine aimed at giving them the opportunity to make choices and to become independent learners within a safe, respectful and supportive environment.
Music, active listening, discovery and hands-on activities offer stimulating and challenging situations where the links between their own and others’ experiences and backgrounds are explored.
Connections with nature and the environment are emphasized. Diverse means for recording information provide a strong basis for the eventual reading programme. Fostering the joy of learning, which is emphasized throughout the school is, of course, of vital importance for this age group.
Beginning in Third Grade (Year 4) most of the history lessons concentrate on Mediterranean history and culture – The Ancient Egyptians, the Sumerians, The Phoenicians, the Etruscans, the Ancient Greeks and Romans as well as the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Every year the 4th and 5th Grade (Year 5 and 6) participate in a trip to either Florence or Greece.
The combination of didactics and participation in the cultural events as well as the organized trips to Rome’s innumerable museums, contribute to provide a complete and stimulating course of studies.
By the end of 5th Grade (Year 6) Kendale students are well prepared for the transition to Middle School, whether it be the Italian Scuola Media, an international institution or a school in their home country.
